David James Pittet, grew up in a small town in Alberta. Dave spent his childhood riding horses and hanging out on the farm. It was here that he was exposed to many Country and Western Artists. At the age of 15 he got his first acoustic guitar, which quickly lead to an Electric one. And at the age of 25 he began touring with a Rock Cover Band as lead guitarist and backing vocalist. Through these years his music was rock influenced by bands like Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Even through his rock years Dave was self-proclaiming a prophecy, which finally came true.
“ With this low voice of mine I probably will end up singing in a country band
". Be careful what you prophesize ! It all started only 2 years ago, when Dave saw the award winning movie
I Walk the Line. While singing along with the soundtrack, a friend commented, “ You should sing more of Johnny Cash songs. You sound just like him
". Since childhood Dave has played with mimicking voices. So it did not take long for Dave to pattern his voice to imitate
the Man in Black. At first he started performing some of Johnny’s bigger hits;
like Ring of Fire, Folsom Prison Blues and Cocaine Blues in with his Rock Band’s
set material. The reaction was ecstatic! After continuous enthusiastic response,
he decided to form a new band to facilitate the new sound better. Consisting of
three other local musicians and Dave, the Johnny Cash tribute band American Hero was formed. After a few more months, some new material and a few personnel changes the band became
Big River. Dave Pittet, along with his fellow band mates in
Big River, continue to gain fans everywhere they play. With Dave’s
uncanny ability to sound like Johnny himself and the trio’s presentation of “
The Tennessee Three ” is quickly making Big River into one of the
most enjoyable and sought after Johnny Cash Tribute bands around. With no plans
as of yet, the Band assures us that you will be able to see them touring across
Canada soon. They also would publicly like to thank all the Pubs and Restaurants
in Nanaimo, BC and surrounding areas where Big River
developed our music. Your continuing support and hospitality are greatly
appreciated and will never be forgotten.
